Belt and hose inspection and replacement in Sioux Falls.
Every time it is on the lift
Belt, tensioner and idlers together
A belt rarely fails alone
Belts and hoses are among the cheapest parts on a vehicle and among the most inconvenient when they fail. They also give warning, which is the whole reason to look at them before they are urgent.
A serpentine belt drives the alternator, the water pump on many engines, and the power steering. When it goes, you lose charging and often cooling at the same time, usually somewhere inconvenient.
Especially when cold or damp. Often a belt that has hardened and glazed, sometimes a tensioner that is no longer holding proper tension.
Look at the ribbed side. Cracking across the ribs means it is aged out, and a belt that looks like that is on borrowed time.
Hoses fail from the inside. One that feels spongy, hard or bulged is worth replacing before it splits somewhere away from home.
Usually a pulley bearing, an idler or a tensioner rather than the belt itself, which is why we check the whole system.
Crust or staining at a clamp is an early leak. It is a cheap fix while it is seeping and an expensive one after it lets go.
Belt condition, tensioner travel, idler bearings and pulley alignment. A new belt on a failing tensioner will not last.
Upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses and the connections at each end, since they fail at the ends as often as in the middle.
A belt with life left is a belt with life left. We will say so and note it for next time rather than replacing it today.
When the tensioner or idlers are worn, doing them with the belt saves paying the labour twice.

By condition rather than strictly by age, though most last somewhere between sixty and one hundred thousand miles. We check it whenever the vehicle is on the lift and tell you what we see.
No, and the difference matters. A timing belt is internal and has a fixed replacement interval, and on many engines letting it fail damages the engine. Tell us your vehicle and we will tell you which it has.
On engines where the timing belt drives the water pump, usually yes, because the labour is already being paid for. We will explain the reasoning on the estimate rather than simply adding it.
It is a sign the belt has glazed and is no longer gripping properly. It will not improve on its own, and it is inexpensive to address before it becomes a breakdown.
